You Have Paint on Your Clothes

business casual

Man dressed in a business suit: “You know you have paint on your clothes right?”

Me: “Yes I’m aware of that. It’s ok. I’m an artist.”

“Double Star” 2013. Oil, acrylic and spray paint on birch. Jacket and model not included.

Guess that’s what I get for wearing my paint jacket outside. Doesn’t bother me though. There’s history behind these splattered clothes.

I still remember getting that jacket. It’s actually my varsity volleyball jacket from high school. The main reason I like it though is that it’s one of the jackets that’s broken in perfectly, remains in great shape despite its’ age. It keeps me warm while I work and is perfect for layering. Every paint stain came from a piece that eventually ended up in a museum, a gallery or an art collection.

Every piece of clothing has a story.

Business Doodles

Today’s plan included more business tasks, working on the website and taking care of design-related tasks. I’m also trying to wrap up a design project for work since there’s no time to take care of it during work hours. I always write my plans but find myself making doodles in the margins as I work. Here’s the one from today:

You can see in the upper-righthand corner there’s an outline of a website. Do other artists do this while working? Maybe this is another one of those quirks about being an artist with a day job.

To my readers – do you find yourself doodling in the margins? Or do you have other items that you jot down in the margins of your worksheets? If so, please share them with me!

Design Previews – Doll-inspired tee shirts and accessories.

Here are a few samples of the vector designs I’ve been working on for my fashion line. These are mainly for tee shirts and accessories, not sure which ones will make the cut so I’m going to keep working hard on these:

I also silkscreened a few of my designs awhile back, just working with black and white images for right now until I get more consistent with it:
